Annual Los Angeles Sales Mission

Earlier this month, Explore Marketing led the annual five-day Los Angeles Sales Mission where we met with tour operators responsible for inbound travel from the top three Asian countries – China, Japan and South Korea. Together with clients from the Leisure Pass Group, Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, 7D Experience, Red and White Fleet, Monterey Bay Aquarium and San Mateo County & Silicon Valley Visitors Bureau, we visited 20 tour operators, hosted a luncheon attended by Chinese tour operators and shared details of new products and reasons travelers should continue to visit the U.S. As data shows China continues to be one of the fastest growing inbound markets for the U.S., here’s an overview of how clients on our sales mission have seen an uptake from Chinese travelers:

7D Experience Is Open During The Holidays

Tour operators looking to entertain groups or FITs at San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf over the Holiday Season will be happy to know that the 7D Experience at Pier 39 will be open every day including on Christmas Day. Visitors can blast away the invading space robots as they careen through space trying to save the planet in the newest Robot Riot ride, barrel down the rickety tracks of an old mine shaft to save themselves and their gold from hordes of skeletons, mummies and other creepy Ghoulies in the Forbidden Mine or put their agility, speed and confidence to the test as they navigate their way through a web of crisscrossing laser beams. Just steps away, the Red and White Fleet is offering hourly bay cruise departures to complement any visit to Pier 39.

New Edgewood Lodge in South Tahoe

In June, 2017, the Edgewood Lodge opened its doors. The Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe recaptures the spirit of the historic lodges of the great American West and is home to 154 luxury rooms and suites, each boasting its own gas fireplace and private deck or terrace. New Developments at Monterey Bay Aquarium

Animal care is at the heart of the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s mission to inspire conservation of the ocean. The Aquarium is currently expanding their Animal Care Center to better meet the needs of ocean animals at the Aquarium and in the wild. Those that participate in the Aquarium’s “behind-the-scenes” tours will have a chance to see the updated facility in 2019. The Aquarium has also started construction on their most ambitious undertaking since opening the Aquarium – their new Center for Ocean Education and Leadership. This state-of-the-art learning center is designed to engage and inspire California’s students today, and for generations to come. The Center will be constructed to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Gold standards for sustainability, including the use of solar panels, a living roof and water conservation features. Honoring an industrial spirit and adding new twists on old themes, the design of the four-story, corrugated-cement-fiber Center reflects the look of historic warehouses that lined Cannery Row in its heyday. Red and White Fleet Introduces New Fuel-Efficient Vessel

Scheduled for completion in Summer 2018, Enhyrdra will become the newest and largest member of the San Francisco-based sightseeing cruise operator, Red and White Fleet. The Enhyrdra will be the first 600-passenger lithium-ion battery hybrid vessel operating in the U.S. and one that is 20% more fuel- efficient than its conventional diesel engine propulsion systems. In addition to that, it also reduce greenhouse gas emission by 60% as well as reductions in Particulate Matter (PM) and Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx). Featuring three decks, including two panoramic outdoor decks, passengers will be able to take in spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay and the cityscape from the silence of its electric engines. The Red and White Fleet plans to use this vessel for its regularly scheduled public cruises, including daytime bay cruises, sunset cruises, and private charters.
