Explore Marketing Update - Issue 12

Insights From Tradeshows

Explore Marketing had a busy travel schedule in the Fall having participated in a number of major tradeshows in Asia, Europe and the UK. During this time, we exhibited at ITB Asia in Singapore, which was attended by buyers from Southeast Asia, TTG Incontri in Italy, one of the biggest travel trade shows in Italy, and World Travel Market in London. In addition to that, we also participated in the Brand USA India Sales Mission and conducted sales calls in China, where we met with top travel trade operators and media. Through these meetings, we learned that despite concerns over visa restrictions to the U.S. and a decline in arrivals, China continues to be one of the fastest growing inbound markets for the U.S. and more Chinese travelers are now traveling as FITs instead of on escorted tour packages. Meanwhile, Indian arrivals to the U.S. increased by 113% over seven years (2009 - 2016). In 2016, the U.S. welcomed 1.17 million Indian visitors with a majority who traveled for business (39%) and to visit friends and relatives (28%). Collectively, they spent $13.5 billion while Southeast Asia is a source market for MICE groups. Such insights are invaluable as it helps suppliers gain a better understanding on what motivates travel to the U.S. and ways we can meet these requirements.
